Quirky Elves

There’s literally nothing wrong with the B/X elf but I’m going to fix it anyway because I’m bored.

Elves are pure and undying. The world is decaying, and the treasure of ancient dungeons is your birthright. At least, that’s what they all say in the elven taverns.

Elves combine the abilities of Magic Users and Fighters, able to cast spells in armor and use any weapon. Elves definitely start with 1 spell and never get extra attacks.

Elf facts:

• Anyone raised by an elf becomes an elf.
• Elves can detect secret doors on 1-in-6 just by passing them.
• Elves are immune to paralysis from ghouls.
• Elves have a 2-in-6 to hear noises.
• Elves can see 60’ in starlight.
• Elves level very slowly. Probably half as fast as fighters.

All elves must roll on this table to get a matched Feat, Modifier, and bonus starting gear.

1	Half of face horribly deformed	-1 to reaction rolls	Porcelain face mask, doppelgangers etc. copy the face beneath it.
2	Sunlight sensitivity	-1 to hit in sunlight or similar	Welding goggles, +1 against blinding or gaze attacks etc.
3	Extra Fingers	Can’t use magical or technological devices like wands and rayguns.	Beautiful custom gloves protect hands, +1 to relevant saves such as handling poison.
4	Needs drugs to sustain vitality	1 level temporarily drained every week without drugs – death at 0.	1 week supply of drugs. You can forage 1-in-8 and shop for more in any city. Take an extra dose and a 1-week duration level drain to power a spell up one level.
5	Can’t touch Iron	1 damage per round from ferrous metal	Free elf-plate armor, made of bug carapace or something
6	Airhead	Instead of brain there is magic smoke.	None- but you never need to sleep. No chance of recovery from death except for Wish spell.

Your bonus starting gear is custom made, semi-magical heirlooms and not helpful to others.
